Father served in military, only child, graduated June 1963. Participated in sit ins in Gadsden, Enlisted in Army - Opportunity and more integrated basic - curiosity | challenge | meeting more people. Physical Training of PT Test - Helped and assisted each other to succeed (LA) Fort Polk Civil Rights / Acceptance occurred between friends. Curiosity was important - people choose ones who looked like them. They were not concerned about what was happening off base. Uniform very powerful in town. Vietnam S&D missions - Houch - had house boys (shot water buffalos) - some soldeirs did. On Guard 100% of the time. Only lost one man during a fire fight. Rescue mission of Vietnamese (night). Amount of tracers in the air. Rescued men during mission - Bronze Star. People depended on you to do your job. Last shot gun TDY to leave |
